The passing of a great human being

I got this posting from pony_bootblack and wanted to pass it on to some of my friends who may not have seen it. I met Bill at our very first LR so long ago at Camp Saginaw. I was lucky enough to count Bill as one of my friends and someone I always looked forward to seeing. Bill will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Tweekie.

From pony:

So damn sad
I just spoke with my friend tweekie.

Our fellow LJ friend and camp-fiend, Wild Bill, passed away today (Thursday).

Bill and I had been friends since my first LR in 04 and spoke almost daily via IM until recent months when the ALS prevented it.

He will be dearly dearly missed.

I'm REALLY tired of my friends dying of sucky diseases.

More Update

Well, the boarded horse is still with us. They have not gotten back the Coggins test results yet so they have not moved him. Perhaps this coming weekend.

I tend to wear my tennis shoes until they are literally falling apart simply because I hate spending money on shoes and I will only buy them on sale. The last pair I bought at Sam's Club for $27. I have needed a new pair for a while and looked at Wal-mart when I was in there the other day (I was dragged in by someone else; I don't care for Wal-marts). I found a pair of gray ones I liked that also fit (I need a wide) that were on sale for $30 and then found another pair of white ones that were drastically reduced to $11. I walked out of there with 2 pair for a little more than I would normally spend for one pair.

We live out in the country (the image for this post is a picture I took near our house one morning) and our cell phones don't work in the house. I bought and installed a cell phone repeater/amplifier in the house about a month ago and it was working great. We had 4 to 5 bars in the house instead of the none or one even standing over by the windows. We are even using it to get our internet access. So everything was working great and I was getting ready to call AT&T and drop our landline when the system stopped working. After some investigating/testing by me and the phone tech support guys, the amplifier itself was determined to be the problem. I am sending it back today and they will ship out a new one. Should be back up and running next week.

The middle daughter has been of some concern to us as she just does not know what she wants to do with her life. She attended the local community college for a while and then started attending the university where her brother is but just has not been able to find anything she likes. She has decided she is wasting her time and our money and talked to us about options. She will leave the university, pick up a couple of classes at the community college, end up with a couple of associate degrees and then start attending a cosmetology institute next fall. She seems excited about it which is more than she ever was about attending college. I think she felt it was expected of her and she would be letting everyone down by not getting a degree. She seemed concerned that grandma (my late wife's mother) would be upset about her dropping out (late wife, grandma, and grandma's parents all went to this university along with various aunts, uncles, and cousins) but I said, "Oh well, she can just be upset all she wants, it's not her life!" We told her we would support her in what she decides to do, we just want her to be happy with it.

Catching up a little

I have not really written anything in a while so will try to do some catching up here and there.

I think the last time I wrote anything here I mentioned that I had gotten rid of our horses and that my oldest daughter took it very hard. She is still not talking to me. The people that bought the horse we were boarding for someone else have been coming out and feeding him everyday and have supposedly finished putting up their new fence and are going to take him home this weekend. One less thing for me to worry about and have to take care of.

We normally get a good size tax refund every year but this year we ended up paying quite a substantial amount. I had to use most of the money we made from selling our hay equipment to pay the taxes and the rest was used up with some other bills. Sad to say, without the tax refund, we are not going to make it to LR this year. We have too many other bills to pay and no money to do it so we hope all of you that are going have a great time; we will miss seeing you.

The weather in Michigan has been like a roller coaster lately. We would be up in the 70's and then down in the 30's; up in the high 70's and then down in the 40's. A few weeks ago, it was in the high 60's one day and we had 4 inches of snow on the ground the next. Went to a ballgame two weekends ago and got a good sunburn on my face and arms, finally finished peeling a couple days ago. Now the weather here seems to have settled down into the 60's with some rain on and off. Hopefully the cold stuff is gone and we will start getting more sun and a little more warmth.

Well, all for now. :)

Such a cute little puppy

Whether you own a dog or not, you must
appreciate the efforts of this owner to sell her dog.
Read the sales pitch!!!

Dog For Sale
Free to good home. Excellent guard dog.
Owner cannot afford to feed him anymore, as there are
no more drug pushers, thieves, murderers, or molesters left in the neighborhood for him to eat. Most of them knew him as 'Holy Sh*t.'

My Bike

Crazy?

I have been riding the motorcycle into work all this week. It was in the low 40's or a little lower in the mornings on the way in so not too bad. The coldest I have ridden the bike into work before was 26 degrees. So, I got going down the road this morning with it feeling a little brisk; I check the onboard temperature gauge and find it to be a nippy 18 degrees! The sun was coming up and by the time I got to work the temperature had risen to a balmy 23 degrees. Getting off the bike and heading inside, I was looking forward to getting warmed up. Walk in the front door only to find out the heat is out and it is a might chilly in the building too. But I have a secret weapon hidden away in my office...I am now sitting here with the door closed and an electric heater running warming up my tootsies! Ahhhhh.....

My sister emailed me these

LOST IN THE DAMNEDEST PLACES

An elderly Floridian called 911 on her cell phone to report that her car has been broken into. She is hysterical as she explains her situation to the dispatcher: 'They've stolen the stereo, the steering wheel, the brake pedal and even the accelerator!' she cried.

The dispatcher said, 'Stay calm. An officer is on the way.'

A few minutes later, the officer radios in. 'Disregard,' he says.

'She got in the back-seat by mistake.'

FAMILY

Three sisters, ages 92, 94 and 96, live in a house together. One night the 96-year old draws a bath. She puts her foot in & pauses. She yells to the other sisters, 'Was I getting in or out of the bath?'

The 94-year-old yells back, 'I don't know. I'll come up & see.' She starts up the stairs and pauses, 'Was I going up the stairs or down?'

The 92-year-old is sitting at the kitchen table having tea listening to her sisters. She shakes her head & says, 'I sure hope I never get that forgetful, knock on wood.' She then yells, 'I'll come up & help both of you as soon as I see who's at the door.'

'I CAN HEAR JUST FINE!'

Three retirees, each with a hearing loss, were playing golf one fine March day.

One remarked to the other, 'Windy, isn't it?'

'No,' the second man replied, 'it's Thursday.'

And the third man chimed in, 'So am I. Let's have a beer ....'

LITTLE LADY:

A little old lady was going up & down the halls in a nursing home. As she walked, she would flip up the hem of her night-gown & say 'Supersex.' She walked up to an elderly man in a wheelchair. Flipping her gown at him, she said, 'Supersex.'

He sat silently for a moment or two and finally answered, 'I'll take the soup..'

OLD FRIENDS:

Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades. Over the years, they had shared all kinds of activities & adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards. One day, they were playing cards when one looked at the other & said, 'Now don't get mad at me. I know we've been friends for a long time, but I just can't think of your name! I've thought & thought, but I can't remember it. Please tell me what your name is '

Her friend glared at her. For at least three minutes she just stared & glared at her.

Finally she said, 'How soon do you need to know?'

SENIOR DRIVING

As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his car phone rang.. Answering, he heard his wife's voice urgently warning him, 'Ernie, I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way on Interstate 77. Please be careful!'

'Heck,' said Ernie, 'It's not just one car. It's hundreds of them!'

DRIVING

Two elderly women were out driving in a large car - both could barely see over the dashboard. As they were cruising along, they came to an intersection. The stoplight was red, but they just went on through. The woman in the passenger seat thought to herself, 'I must be losing it. I could have sworn we just went through a red light.'

After a few more minutes, they came to another intersection & the light was red again. Again, they went right through. The woman in the passenger seat was almost sure that the light
had been red but was really concerned that she was losing it. She was getting nervous.

At the next intersection, sure enough, the light was red & they went on through..

So, she turned to the other woman & said, 'Mildred, did you know that we just ran through three red lights in a row? You could have killed us both!'

Mildred turned to her & said, 'Oh, crap, am I driving?'
